Red Wasp Film Festival

The Red Wasp Film Festival began in 2003. Founders Carol and Craig Conlee first held the festival at 7F Lodge in Wellborn, TX. Originally, the festival was held outdoors during the springtime, and red wasps would frequently pester the guests. In an attempt to bring humor to the situation, the Conlee’s decided to name the festival after the pests, hence the name Red Wasp Film Festival. In 2006, the Brazos Progressives partnered with Carol and Craig, and the festival moved to downtown Bryan, TX.

In 2014, The Arts Council assumed management of the festival. Each year Red Wasp grows more popular and attracts larger crowds and more interesting and diverse films. The Arts Council continues to expand the festival so that many more film lovers will be able to enjoy artistic and innovative films in the Brazos Valley for many years to come!

What's the BUZZ?

For the first time in Red Wasp history, we will be offering a special exclusive VIP event to all selected film makers! This event includes an opportunity to view the newly released documentary ‘Cowboys’ directed by Bud Force and John Langmore with Ultralite Films premiering at Austin’s Film Festival in October of 2019. You will also have a chance to check out historic downtown Bryan and interact with some of the locals.

The City of Bryan was originally a railroad town and has distinguished itself as a destination for vibrant art, great restaurants and distinctive shopping. Each street is lined with eclectic restaurants, shops, bars and art galleries that foster Downtown Bryan’s funky small town charm.

The Red Wasp Film Festival aims to bring high quality films from around the world to the Brazos Valley to increase film and film maker appreciation.
